Challenging Domesticity

Confession #2 I am domestically challenged.. when it comes to cooking, cleaning, I didn't have the finest example growing up, so I am self-taught and learning new things everyday, this week I challenged myself more by making new recipes I found on pinterest...

This story will be told in Two chapters.. Chapter ONE:
The Enchiladapocalypse..

I found a recipe for white chicken enchiladas, seemed easy enough, but after I created the rue (french term for flour and butter sauce base) everything sorta went downhill from there.. I didn't let the sauce thicken, I think I was concentrating more on why my then boyfriend was taking so long to come over and worrying that he was in an accident than I was on making this sauce.. so alas, the sauce was thin and the consistency of the final product was BLEGH. HOWEVER this story does have a happy ending.. I ended up bringing the enchiladas over to my boyfriend's house and he ended up proposing to me..

DISCLAIMER: WHITE CHICKEN ENCHILADAS WITH THIN SAUCE DOES NOT ALWAYS RESULT IN MARRIAGE PROPOSALS.
anyway here's the documentation of the baking..etc.. followed by a picture of my engagement ring AND the link to the enchiladas (supposedly they are supposed to be really good if you make them correctly)

Chapter two of my Kitchen endeavors is called TAQUITORGASM
Despite my kitchen failure with the enchiladas, my lovely fiance allowed me to cook for him again... this time I took on another recipe for creamy chicken taquitos.. the description itself made my mouth water... and let's just say this time I did it right and my fiances response after taking his first bite: "So are you going to cater our wedding?" LOL needless to say they were AMAZING! I need to mention that I forgot one ingredient at the grocery store, so even though the recipe calls for green onions, it's safe to say the recipe is amazing even without them.. go figure.. also I came up with my own recipe for guacamole.. here it is.
ONE LARGE AVOCADO
1tbs green salsa
1tsp garlic salt
1/3 tsp chili powder
1tbs lime juice..
MIX IT UP.. it was delicious, let me know how you like it if you try it :)

and just to be crafty I made a couple things that weren't pins.. this week but just thought I would share them one is a crochet headband for my daughter's teacher and the other is a valentines garland made of felt.

AND I tried another hairstyle! Yup I did.. I may be getting better at this whole style thing.. not sure... but I found a pin for 15 alternative bun hairstyles for moms.. and since I have been in a mom hair "rut" for sometime I pinned this site and it was amazing!! This specific hairstyle is the something "tuck" can't remember.. but feel free to explore the site! It's amazing!

Seeing Hearts

So I told you in a previous post that there would be more yarn hearts and alas this post has come.

The line doesn't stop here though.

I have found many patterns for hearts on pinterest and have been saving them all in my "yarntastic" board.
And today or tonight I should say, I gave them a whirl...
Voila!

A

B

C

D

In Hindsight I missed the mark on Heart D and perhaps should go back and try again, it's the smallest of the hearts and was recommended as a cute bobby pin accessory or as my boyfriend adorably calls them (bobbing pins).

Heart C was a UK pattern that I had to translate into US, which was new but a great learning process and I like the off kilter shape.

Heart B was the easiest to make, I highly recommend it, I used too big of a hook, it's supposed to be tighter, and when it is, it looks glorious!

Heart A is one heart of a garland pattern, more are to come, it's the most intricate but also the most aesthetically pleasing in my opinion.

AROUND THE HOUSE:

and just for kicks I also (this week) took some advice from one of the pins in my Organizing 101 Board and did this trick to organize my scarves! (shower rings and hangers were only 99 cents at the dollar tree! SCORE!)

Perhaps I need more scarves??? CROCHET TIME!!!

Until next time: Happy Pinning!
